Rebirth of a 1.8 T

I've always thought…. and maybe this is childish….
Just Imagine being a 1.8t engine and being put into an mk4 GTI… who was bought by a middle-aged person who loved the car when it was new. The 1.8t is excited and full of enthusiasm; after all, being a turbocharged engine is pretty exciting! Because at the time it was powerful, responsive and fun while being fairly fuel efficient. As time goes by and said car starts getting older, the person sells it because its outdated; and someone else picks up the car for cheap.

By now, the 1.8t is hopeful that maybe this new owner will do performance upgrades because he knows he has it in him to be greater, faster and more fun. A few years go by and now this poor 1.8t is going way over its oil change intervals, coolant flanges are leaking, PCV system is shot, air filter is dirty, the k03 is starting to have axial play and starts burning oil but, its still working. There's danger looming in the horizon; the timing belt is over due for replacement and the customer is informed but, paying 600 to 700 dollars to replace it, just isn't worth the old cars value. So, inevitably the timing belt lets go and now the valves are in a collision course with the pistons.... the poor 1.8t is tired and showing his age. The worry starts, he feels inside that something isn't right and then, suddenly, silence…. knowing this is the end of the road, all hope is lost…... he knows that now the junkyard is where he will be rusting; becoming obsolete and forgotten. As time goes by it will be considered outdated and weak by modern standards.

One day that little 1.8t wakes up from a long slumber, to find itself in a hot tank having a bath for the very first time since he was born. He feels empty, incomplete, like his insides are not there. All of a sudden, he notices that he’s going into surgery and someone is very carefully and diligently checking to see how he is doing inside. When he finally builds the courage to look down he sees that he has a nice low gloss black finish to him and it dawns on him, all hope is not loss……
